A surprising number of injuries happen in airports

“A lot of people don’t get to go abroad too often, so when they do it can be both a very exciting but stressful time, particularly when at the airport. The results from this study show that it’s far more common than people realise to have luggage related injuries from rushing around,” says Adam Ewart, founder of SendmyBag.com.

Here are some stats about airport injuries from a survey of more than 2,150 adult vacationers in the UK.

·       The top six most common injuries sustained in airports are:

1.       Back pain – 19%

2.       Bruises -16%

3.       Broken toe(s) – 15%

4.       Cuts and grazes – 14%

5.       Pulled muscle (not back) – 12%

6.       Twisted/sprained ankle – 10%

·       One third of British vacationers have hurt themselves at an airport and half of them blame their luggage.

·       Another third were hurt by ‘slips and trips from rushing around,’ while 13 per cent blamed injuries on escalators.

·       Luggage falling on them and tripping over a bag were the two biggest reasons for getting hurt.

Keep these facts in mind next time you travel. Be careful not to rush around too much and handle your luggage safely. If you’re ever injured in an airport, be sure to report your injury to airport staff and speak to a personal injury lawyer that has experience in aviation accidents.
